Asia Market Update: KOSPI Jumps Over 2% As Opposition Leader Wins Election On Expected Lines
The KOSPI, South Korea’s benchmark index jumped over 2% as opposition party leader Lee Jae-myung won election on expected lines. The country has seen turmoil due to a political power vacuum since Yoon Suk Yeol’s martial law imposition.
Lee is expected to implement a key legislation which will give higher esteem to shareholders, as reported by Bloomberg.
KOSPI was 2.33% higher as of 7:45 a.m.
Asia-Pacific markets were trading higher Wednesday tracking overnight gains on Wall Street. The Nikkei 225 and Hang Seng were trading 0.92% and 0.60% higher, respectively as of 7:45 a.m.
US Market Update: Rise In Tech Shares Lift Stock-Gauges
US share indices ended higher Tuesday tracking sharp gains in technology stocks. Nvidia Corp rose almost 3% while its market-cap rose past Microsoft. Wall Street also rejoiced in better-than-expected job opening numbers ahead of the official non-farm payroll data, in face of trade-related uncertainty.
Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.51% at 42,519.64. S&P 500 rose 0.03% at 5,970.37, and Nasdaq Composite rose 0.81% at 19,398.96.
GIFT Nifty Implies Higher Open; Paytm, Yes Bank, Sun Pharma Shares In Focus
The GIFT Nifty was trading 0.03% or 8 points higher at 24,722.00 as of 6:41 a.m., which implied a higher start for the benchmark Nifty 50 index.
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., One 97 Communication Ltd., Wipro Ltd., Yes Bank Ltd., and Zydus Lifesciences Ltd. share prices in focus because of the overnight news flow.
The benchmark equity indices closed lower for the third consecutive session on Tuesday, dragged down by shares of HDFC Bank Ltd. and ICICI Bank Ltd.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 174.1 points or 0.7% lower at 24,542.5, while the BSE Sensex closed 636.24 points or 0.78% down at 80,737.51.
