NITI Aayog and the India SME Forum launched a joint initiative called “A Million Women Arise” on Thursday to empower women entrepreneurs across India.
Speaking at the launch event, Ankita Pandey, Director of the Ministry of MSME, highlighted that women-owned enterprises constitute 35% of India’s six crore registered MSMEs. However, they face unique challenges such as gender bias and limited access to markets.
“The Ministry of MSME is committed to addressing these gaps through initiatives that enhance formalisation, mentorship, capacity building, and e-commerce integration,” she shared.
Anna Roy, principal economic advisor, NITI Aayog and Mission Director, WEP, emphasised, “The Women Entrepreneurship Platform is a public-private partnership, bringing together key ministries, including MSME, to support women entrepreneurs. By integrating existing programmes, we aim to create a cohesive support system through access to finance, markets, compliance support, skilling, mentorship, and networking.”
Vinod Kumar, president of India SME Forum, said, “Through this collaboration with NITI Aayog, we aim to extend WEP’s initiatives to millions of aspiring women entrepreneurs, providing them with the knowledge and support needed to build successful businesses.”
Additionally, the India SME Forum formalised a strategic partnership with IndiGo by signing a Memorandum of Understanding at the event. This partnership aims to provide MSMEs with enhanced travel solutions, supporting their growth and mobility.
“The partnership will offer the Forum members exclusive travel benefits, customised allowances, and seamless connectivity to support their business expansion. Through this initiative, IndiGo will introduce tailored travel solutions that will enhance accessibility, reduce costs, and foster growth opportunities for SMEs across India,” a statement said.
