Bank customers across several states should prepare for an extended long weekend, with bank closures from Friday, May 9, to Monday, May 12. This extended break is due to a combination of regional festivals, public holidays and the regular weekend holidays that coincide this week.

It’s important to plan any banking needs in advance, as banks will remain closed in nearly 14 states on Monday on account of Buddha Purnima 2025.

Bank Holiday On Monday In Multiple Cities On May 12

Banks will be closed in Tripura, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Delhi, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh for Buddha Purnima. The closures apply to both public and private sector banks.

Weekend Bank Closures Add To Extended Break

The upcoming holiday on Monday, May 12, comes after a holiday on May 10, as it was the second Saturday of the month, a designated non-working day, as per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines. Banks will also remain closed on Sunday, May 11, as part of the regular weekend closure.

According to the RBI holiday calendar, “All scheduled and non-scheduled banks will observe public holidays on second and fourth Saturdays,” as mentioned on the central bank’s official website.
